The ideal time to invest in cannabis.

The ideal time to invest in cannabis.

The ideal time to invest in cannabis.

The beginning of the decriminalization of marijuana use in different parts of the world is giving rise to a new industry: an ideal time to invest in cannabis.

Canada, United States, South Africa and Uruguay. These are just some of the countries where, in various respects, cannabis is legal. In other territories, such as most of Latin America, Spain or parts of Australia, it is still illegal, although there are gaps in the legislation (such as cannabis smoking clubs) that allow it to be purchased completely legally . The progressive decriminalization of cannabis consumption facilitates the exploitation of a market that has so far operated in the shadows and which in the United States alone could reach 30,000 million in 2025. It could therefore be the ideal time to invest in cannabis.

In a market that expects rapid growth in the space of a few years, companies intending to enter a new market are starting to emerge. One of these, based in Europe, is called JuicyFields and is committed to new investment formats. As if it were a ‘crowdfunding’ campaign, in this Berlin-based company each investor must advance their money and wait 108 days. This is the time considered necessary to prepare and distribute a harvest and receive a return that fluctuates around 1,200 euros depending on the plant.

Below are the words of Alan Glanse, CEO of the company, to learn more about its business model and functionality.

“I can understand that our business model seems complex at first. But I believe this is because there is no other company that does what we do. Our model is based on the concept of “crowdgrowing“: anyone anywhere in the world world can become an “e-grower” as part of a medical cannabis cultivation. The “e-growers” choose which plant they want to plant and we grow it in one of the various plantations we have around the planet. you sell the plant to a third party and the “e-growers” receive their profit right now, we have more than 50% of them located in the offices in Berlin and Malta different parts of Europe and the rest of the world”.

The Polytechnic University of Catalonia has established a business and research center to become an entrepreneur/investor for the cannabis sector in Spain.

The market for cannabis-derived products continues to grow in Spain, following the global trend. The latest institution to join this sector was the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), which created a commercial and research hub, the first of its kind in all of Europe, to promote knowledge of industrial uses of the hemp plant. By studying the subject and the possible areas of application you can become cannabis entrepreneurs.

The statement of the Vice Chancellor for Knowledge Transfer and Innovation of the UPC, Jordi Berenguer

“We want to exercise and achieve research leadership in competitive projects, promote collaboration among participating partners, and become the center of reference in attracting talent for the application of technology in this cannabis sector.”

Between companies, research centers and associations in the cannabis sector, the hub has 18 participants. Furthermore, it will have prestigious experts and a public-private scientific committee, which includes the Institute for Agri-Food Research and Technology, dependent on the Generalitat de Catalunya. All ready to share their knowledge and educate enthusiasts to become entrepreneurs or investors prepared on the topic of cannabis.

In this way, the cannabis and its derivatives sector reaches universities in Spain for the first time, which demonstrates the potential of a sector in which great figures such as David Beckham are already investing. His company, Cellular Goods, offers a cannabis derivative for smoking without THC, the substance that gives you the feeling of being high.

New York legalizes recreational marijuana.

New York legalizes recreational marijuana.

Marijuana becomes legal in New York thanks to a legalization bill signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo in March. Although the legal sale of recreational cannabis won’t begin for 18 months, the Supreme Court has now approved the law. The measure makes New York the 16th state to legalize adult use of the (soft) drug. New York becomes the second most populous state, after California, to legalize recreational marijuana. Legalization advocates hope the Empire State sets an example to remedy the inequities of a system that has locked up people of color for marijuana offenses at disproportionate rates.

Consequences and objectives of the new legislation

On March 31, 2021, New York legalized recreational marijuana for anyone over 21. The new law allows the possession of up to 85 grams of cannabis and the possibility of growing up to 12 plants. Marijuana consumption becomes legal in all places where smoking tobacco is allowed. The new legislation leads to profound changes at a social and judicial level:

  • Provides protections for cannabis users in the workplace, housing, family courts, schools, colleges and universities.
  • It has a goal of providing half of marijuana licenses to individuals from underrepresented communities.
  • New York will automatically begin expunging some past marijuana-related convictions, and people will not be arrested or prosecuted for possession of up to 3 ounces of pot. A 2019 law has already expunged many past convictions and reduced the penalty for possessing small amounts.
  • It also provides for the use of profits from the product, legally placed on the market and taxed, for schools, healthcare and to support the most disadvantaged communities.

In one move, New Yorkers 21 and older can now smoke cannabis in public, including on sidewalks. No other state allows it, said Paul Armentano, deputy director of the pro-legalization group NORML. Local governments may pass stricter rules on marijuana use. They can ban retail dispensaries and impose small civil penalties. all so long as they do not “completely or substantially prohibit a person” from the legal use of marijuana.

Economic Factor

Marijuana Business Daily magazine estimates that New York could become the largest recreational marijuana market on the East Coast, generating potential annual revenue of $2.3 billion by its fourth year. Cuomo, a Democrat, has said annual tax revenue could eventually amount to $300 million, although Republicans are skeptical. California was forced to cut $223 million from state budget projections in 2019 due to slower-than-expected pot sales.

How to join a social cannabis club in Spain

How to join a social cannabis club in Spain

How to join a social cannabis club in Spain

Joining a social cannabis club in Spain has been possible for years. These locations are private places where you can find different qualities of weed and smokes that you can consume inside. If you are interested in becoming a member of a club, we will explain everything about how to do it.

To join the club you must register in which you declare that you are a marijuana user (paying an annual membership fee which varies from club to club). You will then be issued a card or device (under your name and surname) with which you can access the club for one year.

REQUIREMENTS to join a Social Cannabis Club:

  • Have reached the age of majority (some even 21 years old, depending on the type of club).
  • Be in possession of an identity document that can prove your residence.
  • Be accompanied or recommended by a member who is already a member who explains the rules to you and introduces the person who becomes a member.

What to know: the laws in Spain

As we wrote previously, not all clubs allow access to tourists. This happens because many dispensaries are opened with special statutes to allow entry only to those who own residence, while others are made to also welcome tourists. A very important thing to keep in mind is that under Spanish law drinking in public places is still a crime. This means that if the police find you outside the club with marijuana or consuming marijuana there is a possibility that you will be fined. In fact, if you are found outside the club consuming, it is your responsibility and not the club’s. The latter protects the person when consuming in a private place (i.e. the cannabis club) where there are all the appropriate rules for smoking. Another important thing regarding the clubs is that within them there is no concept of buying/selling of substance, but the club is supposed to grow a monthly quantity of grass which will be consumed only and exclusively within the association.

The average cost of cannabis in Barcelona

The average cost of cannabis in Barcelona

The average cost of cannabis in Barcelona

The average cost of cannabis in Barcelona varies depending on the quality and supplier. But the retail price of cannabis is lower in Barcelona. Firstly, it is beneficial for cannabis enthusiasts in Barcelona that local cannabis growers and producers are supported.

The use of marijuana and hashish is not legal in Spain but tolerated, particularly in the Catalan region, where Barcelona is located. To purchase it, you must become a member of a club. These can require a fairly substantial fee to join, but your membership fee offers benefits, such as a place to hang out and smoke with candy to take care of your cottonmouth, and typically subsidizes the cost of the cannabis that is grown and sold to members. Over time, the membership fee pays for itself.

Cannabis production is supported in this way, not only in Barcelona, but throughout Spain. Cannabis is produced, distributed and resold throughout Barcelona. This creates a strong network that is independent of cannabis prices in other countries. So much so that Barcelona has quickly earned the title of cannabis capital.

Cannabis prices in Barcelona follow the price of cannabis in Spain at €5 per gram. Compared to other EU countries, cannabis is still the cheapest in Spain. Montenegro is approaching and sells cannabis at 5.5 euros per gram. Portugal is also quite cheap in offering cannabis at €7.3 per gram.

Other Countries

Croatia sells cannabis more expensively at €8 per gram. The Czech Republic follows Croatia’s cannabis prices, while Austria, Hungary and Italy cost it between €8-9.

Cannabis in France costs €9.3 per gram, comparable to Belgium’s €9.6 per gram. Across Europe, cannabis sells for over €10 such as in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Serbia, Switzerland, Norway and Luxembourg. In the UK, cannabis sells for €14.80. Such countries can barely compete with cannabis prices in Barcelona given the growing cannabis production in the country.

The most expensive cannabis prices are sold in Greece, Ireland and Malta at over €20. In Malta, cannabis is sold five times the price of cannabis in Spain. The price of cannabis in Malta is €25 per gram. If you want to buy cannabis at the best price in Europe, Spain is the best place to buy.

The Supreme Court rejects the regulation of CANNABIS CLUBS in Barcelona

The Supreme Court rejects the regulation of CANNABIS CLUBS in Barcelona

The Supreme Court rejects the regulation of cannabis consumer clubs in Barcelona, the city in Spain with the largest number of associations of this type. He issued two sentences in just one month. This declares that the City Council of the Catalan capital does not have the powers to regulate the functioning of these entities through a municipal urban plan approved in 2016.

The judicial battle for the delimitation of the regulatory powers of cannabis consumer associations has thus reached the heart of a system based on responsible and shared consumption and harm reduction, of which Spain is the world leader. Previously, the Constitutional Court had already declared the laws approved by the parliaments of Navarra and Catalonia unconstitutional. Now, the Supreme Court has followed this argument by ratifying two sentences of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia in which two appeals are partially upheld against the agreement of 27 May 2016 of the Plenary of the Barcelona City Council with which the development was approved urban for the territorial organization of clubs and associations of cannabis consumers. A year after those elections, the municipal plenary session approved the new plan with votes in favor of Barcelona.

The goal:

As explained by those responsible, it was to make the right of cannabis consumer associations compatible with the exercise of other fundamental rights. The legislation has softened the requirements:

  • It always forces you to maintain a certain distance from education centers.
  • It has established 200 m2 as the maximum surface area of the premises.
  • Required a double entrance door or separating corridor.
  • As well as the installation of chimneys to expel smoke.
  • Finally it granted a period of 18 months to adapt the structures to the new legislation.

But these requirements, in particular the obligation to have a chimney for the expulsion of cannabis smoke, have motivated the resources of some interested cannabis associations, which are the ones that ended up at the Supreme Court after the Barcelona City Council appealed against them.
