What’s new in Barcelona’s coffee shops after Covid-19

What changes in Barcelona’s coffee shops after Covid-19? If you are thinking of a holiday in Barcelona for its coffee shops and are waiting for the borders to reopen, you need to know a few things. While waiting for it to be possible to move between states again, you need to know how the Covid emergency has changed the rules of access to coffee shops and all venues in general.

Barcelona was a city hit hard by the epidemic. At the moment it is slowly returning to normality with a drastic drop in new infections which, compared to the acute phase in March, have fallen by 96%. The city is reopening and so shops, shopping centers, restaurants and coffee shops are reopening.

There are rules that govern reopening. Actions are required, both from managers and customers, in order to maintain a high level of safety.

Each venue, as well as coffee shops, declines the rules imposed in order to adapt them to its own space and its users, but always in absolute compliance with safety regulations.

We can say that coffee shops after Covid-19 have become safe and hygienic environments and, although a bit of light-heartedness has been lost, they are absolutely safe. Entering a coffee shop again is finally possible and can be done with complete peace of mind.

An appointment system. We maintain social distancing

After Covid-19, coffee shops had to reorganize. They had to rethink all the internal spaces with a view to social distancing. The legislation, in fact, provides for the obligation to maintain a minimum interpersonal distance of two metres. For this reason, and in order not to crowd the internal spaces, cannabis clubs had to think of a way to limit admissions. They can no longer afford to work at full capacity as before. A restaurant in Barcelona can fill up to a maximum of 40% and so can cannabis clubs. For this reason many clubs now work by appointment.

To access you must first contact the club and ask for an appointment. You will be given an entry and exit time and this time must be respected. The solution of limiting entrances and the maximum length of stay is the only one that can guarantee not to overcrowd the place. This solution also allows for a turnover of guests which helps the club survive despite only operating at half capacity. In this way, your stay inside will be safe and pleasant and the club will not have to fear closures due to irregularities.

Frequent hygiene and sanitization for the safety of members

After Covid-19, coffee shops are required to comply with very strict hygiene rules. Sanitizing the premises several times a day is just one of the rules necessary to prevent the spread of the virus. They will also have to sanitize all the workstations between one member and another so as not to allow the virus to spread.

Clubs will no longer be able to give members smoking devices, which at this stage must be strictly personal. Each member will therefore have to bring their own from home.

Each club must make hand sanitizer available to members and must encourage members and staff to wash their hands frequently.

In this way it will be possible to access the clubs in complete safety.

What you need to know about cannabis clubs after Covid-19

The reopening of cannabis clubs after Covid-19 has finally arrived! Spain, as part of the easing of virus containment measures, has ordered the reopening of various commercial activities, including cannabis clubs.

However, these are openings bound to a whole series of rules aimed at guaranteeing the safety of patrons and consumers.

With the closures due to the spread of the epidemic, cannabis clubs have been assimilated to restaurants and pubs. They were forced to close without being able to guarantee their cannabis supply to their members.

Nor was the request to have them opened just to “sell” the products worth it. In fact, Spanish legislation does not provide for the possibility of transporting marijuana outside of clubs. In this way, regular consumers, in two months of lock down, found themselves without supplies and unable to obtain marijuana, even for therapeutic purposes. The reopening of cannabis clubs after Covid-19 puts an end to this state of difficulty and allows members to access the clubs again, but with a series of limitations. These are basic hygiene rules based on the principle of social distancing to guarantee safety and not contribute to a new spread of the epidemic. Rules that provide obligations on both the club managers and the members.

Let’s see together what it is.

Obligations of clubs, to reopen safely

Reopening cannabis clubs after Covid-19 first entails a series of obligations for club managers. Hygiene and maintenance of social distancing are the basis of the reopening and all the clubs are gearing up to respect the rules. In order to reopen safely, each location must guarantee the following standards:

  • Sanitization of the premises several times a day
  • Sanitization of consumption areas between one customer and another
  • Creation of differentiated access and exit routes to avoid creating crowds
  • Availability of hydroalcoholic solutions and disinfectant gels for customers and staff
  • Use of masks and gloves by staff
  • Prohibition on the use of non-personal smoking devices Maintaining a sufficient number of people inside the premises to guarantee interpersonal distances of two metres

Obligations of members, for risk-free attendance

But it’s not just the clubs that have obligations in this phase of reopening of cannabis clubs post Covid-19! Members who wish to access it are also required to respect very important hygiene and behavioral rules.

Also in this case these are rules linked to the principle of hygiene and social distancing. Let’s see together what they are:

  • Access by appointment only
  • Respect the timetables
  • Wear a mask and gloves Wash your hands often or use disinfectant gels
  • Bring your own smoking devices

By respecting these rules, accessing cannabis clubs will be easy and safe and it will be possible to finally go back to enjoying your cannabis!

What changes in cannabis clubs after the Coronavirus

Are you ready to return to cannabis clubs after the coronavirus? Have you suffered these months of withdrawal, despairing of being able to return to Spain to enjoy your favorite cannabis club again? This is the time to look ahead with a little optimism!

The easing of coronavirus restrictions is giving some hope to those who were unable to adequately stock up during quarantine. The gradual reopening of commercial activities and the easing of travel restrictions bodes well.

If we all continue to behave responsibly by respecting safety standards, it is not excluded that we will be able to return to a life close to normal. Clearly our guard must be kept high, at least until a vaccine is available, but resuming our lives with caution may be possible!

Reopening in compliance with the rules and responsible behavior are the key to accessing cannabis clubs again after the coronavirus. A new way can and must be found and respected to return to doing everything we did before.

Cannabis clubs are no different. Like all commercial activities, they must reopen in compliance with a whole series of rules that change the time spent inside them. But it’s worth it! We just need to get used to the new thing a little to be able to enjoy the freedoms we had before again.

Before Covid. A place to meet and socialize

After the coronavirus, cannabis clubs must accept changes that guarantee their survival. These are not great sacrifices, but simple rules to prevent a new spread of the virus! Before the epidemic, cannabis clubs established themselves as places for socialization and relaxation. Places where members could enjoy their cannabis without fear and where they could meet kindred spirits.

Entry into a club was strictly regulated: you had to request access and hope to be admitted. The registration procedure went through a series of steps, including an interview and the decision was final. These strict rules made staying within the clubs extremely pleasant due to the strong selection made upon entry.

Once admitted, however, one could access and enjoy the club’s spaces freely and peacefully. Spend evenings in the company of friends, or go alone to relax without problems. You could spend your time in the club reading, watching TV, or playing games. In short, it was configured as a private place that members could use as they pleased.

After Covid. Restrictions and social distancing for greater safety

After Covid, cannabis clubs had to implement all the safety and social distancing rules required by the new legislation.

It is no longer possible to access without an appointment and the times granted must be strictly respected so as not to cause inconvenience to other members. Limiting entrances is an obligatory choice to allow all members to access while maintaining the right social distancing.

There is talk of a small sacrifice to make but it will allow you to finally access your favorite club. Are you ready?

Coronavirus in Barcelona: what you need to know

Coronavirus in Barcelona: what you need to know

Coronavirus in Barcelona what you need to know

The coronavirus in Barcelona, as in the rest of Spain, has hit hard but, thanks to a severe and careful lock down, the city is slowly returning to normality. In fact, starting from 8 June, Barcelona will enter phase two of recovery, as established by the Spanish government.

This is a phase that involves the end of quarantine and the reopening of many clubs and shopping centers. Always ensuring safety distances and wearing a mask.

From today you can go out without time limits and without a valid reason and restaurants will reopen at 40% of their maximum capacity. Some limitations remain valid for vulnerable categories, such as the elderly. It is also necessary to maintain safe distances, use masks and clean your hands often. Among the limitations that will fall from 8 June is that of the capacity of buses, metro and trains.

Before that date, public transport could circulate with a maximum load of 50% of its capacity, now it can return to circulation with a full load. This way, moving around Barcelona becomes much easier! Furthermore, starting from 8 June, the subway has restored 100% of its services. The Coronavirus in Barcelona is giving way to a situation that is very close to that of normality, although it is still essential to be very careful.

Coronavirus. The point of the situation

The coronavirus in Barcelona is in remission. The strict lock down seems to have had a good effect and the situation is slowly improving.

There have been in total to date more than 18,500 test-confirmed positive cases and more than 4,200 deaths. The numbers are high, but it must be said that in the first week of June the increase in cases decreased by 96%. This decrease is calculated compared to the new cases recorded in the central week of the epidemic, between 23 and 29 March. The growth curve of infections in the city has significantly decreased and everyone is preparing to reopen.

Spain, in Europe, was one of the nations most affected by Covid but at the moment it seems to be a situation in clear recovery and with excellent hopes for the future.

Clearly the guard is not being lowered and all the safety measures put in place by the government must be respected to avoid a second wave. At the moment, however, the signs of recovery are good and Barcelona is moving towards a solution to the problem.

Reopening of clubs and cannabis clubs. A summer of recovery for the city

The coronavirus in Barcelona had led to the closure of all commercial establishments, including cannabis clubs. With the start of phase two, venues and clubs are reopening and the city is starting to come back to life.

Clearly the hygiene and social distancing rules remain strict but, if you get used to them, they are not too difficult to respect. The venues have limited entrances and cannot accommodate more than 40% of their maximum capacity. Staff members, as well as customers, must wear masks and gloves and maintain a safe interpersonal distance of two meters. These are rules aimed at ensuring safety, which are well applied by all clubs and restaurants.

Howard Marks: “Mr. Nice”, the well-known Welsh drug-dealer has died

Have you ever heard of Howard Marks?

Dennis Howard Marks, better known as Mr. Nice, has been an iconic figure in the cannabis world between the 70s and the 80s.

Born in 1945 in Wales, Howard Marks, became known as an international drug dealer when, in 1988, got into jail and was sentenced for international drug selling.

His story is incredible and it’s worth telling. His autobiography “Mr. Nice” was published in 1996 and it’s full of information and interesting details of his adventures.

Introduced to cannabis while he was studying Physics at university, Mr. Nice started selling on a small scale in its faculty. Until the 60s he was selling to his friends and acquaintance but in 1970 there was a big change.

He met Mohammed Durrani, a Pakistani hashish dealer. He offered him the possibility of selling hashish in London, getting out of his circle of friends.

With time and with the consolidation of his position in London, Howard Marks started being used to move capital and hashish abroad.

These have been the first steps of the big empire he would have created in the few years following.

A real empire

Howard Marks, according to his stories, managed to create a real hashish and marijuana empire in a short time. The partnership with Durrani allowed him to access the supplies of hashish and marijuana that were coming from the bags of the diplomatic personnel coming from Pakistan. This way, with the help of some hired dealers, he managed to obtain huge profits. In 1972, thanks to a new route from Kabul to Ireland, he managed to earn even ÂŁ50,000 per travel!

His high rank figure drew the attention of the MI6 that hired him to get information thanks to his contacts in Lebanon, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

At the beginning of the Seventies, Mr. Nice was a “big shot” of international drug dealing.

Although he was arrested by Dutch police in 1973, he managed to evade custody and to continue his activity by expanding to the US thanks to Yakuza. In the mid Seventies, he was an international high-level dealer and he was extremely rich. He was using different pseudonyms and he was in disguise to avoid jail but he equally managed to travel and manage his smuggling. By collaborating with all the criminal associations, he managed to import in the US a huge quantity of hashish and marijuana and became the unbeatable leader in his sector.

Let’s talk numbers: according to his autobiography, at the peak of his activity he was selling more than 30 tons of drugs. He created 25 businesses in the world to recycle money, he was using 43 different identities and had 89 phone lines!

Arrest

In 1988 Howard Marks was arrested in a joint operation of the Spanish and American police. He was arrested and taken to Madrid, and his extradition to the US was requested. He tried to defend himself by saying that his drug dealing activities did not involve the US but Australia. He also tried to argue that he was a spy for the MI6 and that the whole operation was setup. According to his deposition, he was framed because he found drug-trafficking by some CIA agents. Despite this, he was extradited in 1989 in Florida.

During the trial, some of his old collaborators testified against him. He was sentenced to 25 years in jail and a fine of $50,000.

In 1995 however, Howard Marks was freed for good conduct. His stay in jail and its details offer an interesting part of life in a supermax prison, as described in his autobiography.

Political activity and legalisation

After his release, Howard Marks engaged in different activities proving himself as a versatile person.

He worked as an actor in some movies, he collaborated for the creation of videogames, he published a best-selling autobiography. We can say that Mr. Nice lived multiple lives in just one.

In 1997 he even run the British elections pursuing the request to legalise drugs. Following his action, the LCA (Legalise Cannabis Alliance) was born. And from that moment on, his role as an activist was predominant.

His personality was complex and interesting, he was a man that became a drug dealer starting from being a nuclear physicist, to then get into politics and activism. For a long time, he fought for the legalisation of cannabis. After being released he founded the Mr. Nice Seed Bank in the UK, which is one of the most important banks for cannabis seeds. The Mr. Nice Seed Bank was born for research, for the creation of new plants and to sponsor medical cannabis.

Mr. Nice fought until his death for the right of free cannabis for everyone.

He never refused his past, as his trafficking activity was functional to the achievement of his objectives. Wealth, ease, and interesting encounters were part of his life and his magnetic personality helped attracting them. However, when his dealing activity ended, he managed to find a new way to stay afloat. His claim on his questioned past does not erase his battles fought in the third part of his life.

His loss, happened in 2016, deprived the world of a very interesting and controversial figure. He was a giant who helped the world of cannabis move around and who’s been its undisputed protagonist for over three decades.

Covid-19: Charlotte, the 13 years old kid who revolutionised medical cannabis, died

The global movement for the liberalisation of medical cannabis mourns the death of Charlotte Figi.

Covid-19 does not spare anyone and continues its destructive path of contagion and death. Initially it was thought that kids were immune but however it’s not this way anymore. Many cases of prematurely dead kids are making headlines.

On April the 7th 2020 Covid-19 has made another little victim. Charlotte, whose story has revolutionised the medical cannabis, died following complications related to Covid-19.

Charlotte was admitted in the hospital on the 3rd of April following symptoms linked to coronavirus, then she was discharged following an improvement of her conditions. As she got back home, she enjoyed a couple of calm days before the worsening of her health. The worsening led to another immediate hospitalisation, but doctors did not manage to fight against Coronavirus that ended her young life.

The world of medical cannabis, that owes a lot to the experience of this kid, lost the first engine of a liberalisation movement still active to this day.

Charlotte’s story is exemplary, and it started the global movement for the freedom of usage of cannabinol.

Born in 2006 in Colorado Springs in the US, Charlotte quickly showed symptoms of a rare condition that knows no medicines. It was a form of drug-resistant epilepsy known as Dravel Syndrome.

Dravet Syndrome, an illness without cure

Charlotte showed the first symptoms of the Dravet syndrome at the age of just three months. She started having strong epilepsy crises that growing up increased in frequency up to 300 attacks a week. At the age of 5 she was forced to use the wheelchair and to be fed with the probe. The frequency of the attacks did not allow her to have a normal life. She got to a point when she could not talk nor keep eye contact.

Her desperate parents tried all the existing medicines in the market without finding what could actually help the kid.

One day her mother, while researching, found some studies about the usage of medical cannabis to treat epileptic and convulsive crises. At that time Colorado was one of the few states in the US that would allow the usage of medical cannabis as a treatment for seizures.

In a desperate attempt she managed to convince the GP to prescribe the cannabinol to the kid and found two cannabis farmers willing to help her: the Stanley brothers. They were cultivating a new variety of marijuana with a high CBD content and low THC content that is the psychoactive component.

As soon as Charlotte started taking the cannabis oil, her epileptic crises decreased considerably. The kid started playing, walking and they removed the feeding devices too.

Her life expectancy before the treatment with the cannabis oil was of about 8 years. However, her conditions improved so much and quickly that it became a case well know all over the world.

A revolution for medical cannabis

Charlotte’s case, resonating in the news, contributed substantially to the decision of the American government to use cannabinol for medical uses.

A CNN documentary of 2013 showed that the kid was able to walk and play, giving hope to those who have members of their families suffering from the same conditions.

It was a real revolution for medical cannabis! To the point that many families with children having the same condition as Charlotte, moved to Colorado to enjoy the same treatments. Their movement was named “Marijuana refugees”.  A moving collection of their stories has been made by Charlotte’s mum on her Instagram page “Realm of Caring”.

In 2018 the Food and Drug Administration decided to approve a drug made of cannabinol called Epidiolex, to treat convulsions of the Dravet Syndrome. The first ever approved drug for the syndrome.

To date, in the US there are 34 states that have legalised medical cannabis and its use is spreading also in the rest of the world.

From the experience of Charlotte and her family, the “Realm of Caring” association was born, and it helps those in need of taking Cannabinol.

Charlotte’s web

“Realm of Caring” works closely with “Charlotte’s Web”, the society founded from the Stanley brothers. Over time the two brothers have developed and perfected a variety of cannabis suitable to treat convulsive crises. This plant variety took the name from the child who inspired its creation: Charlotte’s Web.

The world rotating around medical cannabis owes a huge thanks you to Charlotte and her family. Their experience allowed to shed light and stimulate the whole sector. The refinement of Charlotte’s Web and its medical use led to an improvement of the life quality of many people.

Research is still continuing, and the usage of cannabinol is proving more and more effective where other drugs are not succeeding.

Covid-19 killed a young person to whom we own a lot. Without her experience and without the patience and energy of her family, the whole marijuana medical sector wouldn’t have got so far.

Little Charlotte, thanks to the new treatment, managed to live her few years in the best possible way.

Rest in peace little Charlotte, we want to remember you smiley and happy, on the slide with your sister.
